A SUPERB ninth-wicket stand saw Chaddesley Corbett rescue victory from the jaws of defeat against Alvechurch on Saturday.

Corbett had lost the toss and were put into bat but restricted their rivals in Worcestershire County League Division Three to 163 all out in the 46th over.

Muhammad Saddiq (5-39) and Ansar Mahmood (2-6) were in good form with the ball for the hosts.

Alvechurch were thankful to Edd Rogers, who scored 91 runs off 99 balls.

But Chaddesley struggled in reply and looked on course for defeat.

Alvechurch bowlers Dan Wolstencroft (4-53) and Christian Battelley (4-69) were in brilliant form and reduced Corbett to 89-8.

But Shahed Zia hit 25 not out and Christopher Walder 44 not out to guide Corbett to 164-8 in the 40th over.

Chaddesley Corbett go to Aveley in the league on Saturday (1pm start).

But the club suffered a setback last week after they had 100 points deducted in the league for fielding an ineligible player.

They player in question featured in the win over Netherton but his registration had not been completed. He was suspended for four games.

League officials deducted 80 points as a punishment and the Longmore side also lost the 20 points they earned against Netherton.

Elsewhere, the Seconds suffered a ten-wicket defeat to Burghill and Tillington.

Batting first, Martin Grange (40) and Nicholas White (70) got among the runs as Chaddesley made 208 all out.

But their opponents made 209-0 in 35 overs, with Richard Knight (101) and Tyler Garard (79) in good form.
