BARNT Green skipper Andrew Sutton believes his side are ready for Saturday’s top of the table showdown against West Bromwich Dartmouth.

The Cherry Hill Road side, who are second in the table, will be aiming to keep their title hopes alive by beating the current Birmingham and District League leaders.

Green are 25 points behind with three matches to go, and nothing less than a win will do to keep them very much in the hunt for the title.

Sutton said: “There is no pressure on us, it’s all on West Bromwich, who have been top for a long time.

“No one expected us to do well, people predicted we would finish mid-table or even near the bottom.

“But we’ve got a very good group, who push each other in training and are getting the best out of each other.

“The pressure’s on West Brom, they know if they win it’s a big step towards the title.”

Spinner Joshua Poysden is set to return for Green after being in Warwickshire’s squad for their Natwest T20 Blast success.

But Sam Hain could miss out because the Bears start a County Championship clash next Sunday.

Green go into their all-important clash at Sandwell Park on the back of a fine win over Walmley on Saturday in a rain affected game.

Sutton put the home side into bat and they made 280-8 in 50 overs, with Lewis Harrison (51), Andrew Henry (56) and Kasir Shah (59no) among the runs.

But after several delays for rain, Green were handed a target of 259 for victory.

Nathan Newport anchor their innings with a patient 58 from 91 balls but Luke Radford (33no) and Sam Cheshire (49) forged a strong sixth wicket partnership, steering them from 163-5 to 237-6 in quick time. Radford eventually guided Barnt Green to 261-7 after Alistair Pollock had smashed eight runs off ten balls.

Green said: “It was a another good team display. Luke and Sam are good friends and they have a lot of self-belief and ability.

"If you look at our stats, not one individual dominates. Our success has been built on contribution of the team."

Monday's clash against Shrewsbury was rained off.
