HOLLYWOOD hotshot actor Tom Hardy will be in the Midlands this week for the premiere of his brand new film Locke.

Tom, who starred in The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless will join critically acclaimed director Steven Knight, screenwriter of Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises and Peaky Blinders, for the premiere at Birmingham's Cineworld on Wednesday. Locke is the story of one man’s life unravelling in a 90-minute race against time.

Ivan Locke has the perfect family, his dream job, and tomorrow should be the crowning moment of his career. But one phone call will force him to make a decision that will put it all on the line.

It is based on an original screenplay by the Oscar-nominated Knight and is produced by Oscar-nominated producer Paul Webster (Salmon Fishing in The Yemen, Eastern Promises, Atonement) and Guy Heeley (Hummingbird) through their London-based company, Shoebox Films.

Sindy Campbell, manager of Film Birmingham, said: “We were delighted when Tom confirmed he would attend the premiere and having both him and Steven will be a huge coupe for the city.

"We've been working with Cineworld for some time to make Birmingham a destination for film premieres and this is confirmation that we are doing something right."

Paul Millington, general manager of Cineworld Birmingham, added: “Birmingham is rapidly becoming a top UK city for film.

"We’re very excited to be hosting the UK premiere of Locke and welcoming Hollywood film stars and directors to Cineworld Birmingham Broad Street for what proves to be an exhilarating evening!”

Justin Skinner, vice president of marketing at Cineworld said: “We’re delighted to be able to host some of the UK’s best film stars and directors at our cinemas.

“Cineworld is committed to offering the best in film and entertainment first and we’re pleased to be able to show our support for this much anticipated, ingenious thriller.”

Lionsgate will release Locke in cinemas across the UK on April 18th, 2014.
