AN AWARD winning Kingswinford choir has delighted the Mayor of Dudley after raising £4,000 for her charities.
The Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir, which won the Mayor’s Award at 2013’s Civic Awards, collected the money at their concerts throughout the past year.
Money will be split between the two mayoral charities – Guide Dogs and Action Heart.
Councillor Margaret Aston, Mayor of Dudley, said: “I am delighted that the Gentlemen Songsters were able to make such a generous donation. This money will be a huge help to the two charities.
“The charities depend on the generosity of people like the Gentlemen Songsters and this money will help them both continue their vital work.”
At a civic reception in the mayor’s parlour, the choir handed over their fundraising total to the mayor and also presented a cheque to the Royal British Legion.
The choir’s popular Festival of Remembrance, at Dudley Town Hall in November 2014, helped raise £2,500 for the organisation.
Keith Moss, chairman of the Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir, said: “We are a very big charity supporter and like to do something every year as part of our busy concert schedule.
“We’re grateful to everyone who came along and supported us throughout the year which has made this huge total possible and helped some very worthy causes.”
