HIP HOP fans are being urged to leave their gravel pits and head Birmingham next week to see the legendary Method Man and Redman perform, writes Steve Zacharanda.

The multi-million record selling duo, who were the driving force behind The Wu-Tang-Clan and Def Squad respectively, are at The 02 Institute on Tuesday.

With an giant catalogue between them, they have been collaborating since 1994 and even co-starred in Fox sitcom Method and Red.

Method Man, although best known as a rapper and for his work with New York legends Wu-Tang, has appeared in films such as How High, Garden State and The Wackness.

He also starred in arguably the greatest TV show of all time, HBO's The Wire and in 2012, hip hop bible The Source included him in its Top 50 Lyricists of All Time.

His album Tical 2000: Judgement Day dragged hip hop into the 21st century with an hard edge that the predominant star at the time, the pampered P Diddy, could only dream of.

Redman can count rapper, DJ, record producer, and actor among his accolades. He rose to fame in the early 1990s as an artist on the Def Jam label. He co-starred with Method Man in How High. In 2015, he released a collaboration with New York-based streetwear brand Mighty Healthy.

A spokesman for The TCO Group, which are bringing the pair to the UK, said: "They bring a show unlike any other and still unrivalled by many of their contemporaries and successors – with an insane amount of energy, incredible showmanship and straight-up entertainment, this is definitely one not to be missed.
