Dan tops our online poll
 |
| WINNER: Dan Protherough topped our online poll. |
DROITWICH rugby coach Dan Protherough has capped a successful year by being crowned the Bromsgrove and Droitwich Advertiser Sports Personality of the Year 2007.
Protherough, who guided his team to the Midlands Division Four West (South) title with a remarkable 100 per cent winning record, received 47 per cent of the votes in our online poll, pipping teenage cyclist Jessica Varnish, who was runner-up with 44.6 per cent.
Our shortlist also included former Bromsgrove Rovers striker Nathan Lamey (2.4 per cent), Barnt Green Cricket Club bowler Phil Mann (3.9 per cent) and Midland PGA winning golfer Matt Morris (2.1 per cent).
A combined total of 2,218 votes were cast.
After winning all 22 league matches and reaching the semi-final of the North Midlands Shield last season, Protherough has seen Droitwich's red-hot form continue into the 2007/08 campaign.
They have stormed to second place in Midlands Division Three West (South) as well reaching the EDF Senior Vase fifth round.
A delighted Protherough thanked our readers for casting their votes.
"I would like to thank all of the people who voted for me, it is a bit of a shock," he said.
"It has been a great year for the club, and we have got to thank all of the people who have put a lot of hard work in.
"It comes down to what the players put in. We have got the potential to get into Midlands Two, which for club like Droitwich who haven't been around that long is fantastic."
