Joining forces

SIX district councillors representing two differing factions have joined forces, but only to secure seats on committees.

At last Wednesday's annual meeting of Bromsgrove District Council, four Independents and two members of the Wythall Residents' Association were given the go ahead by members to join forces while in the chamber.

“As a group we are endeavouring to stop this political infighting that so bedevills local government in Bromsgrove and hope we are able to bring more balanced and constructive points of view to debates.”
Councillor Jean Luck

The group's coordinator, Councillor Jean Luck (Ind-Alvechurch), said this is solely for the purpose of the proportional representation of seats on committees. For all other purposes they will retain their own identities.

The group will be known as The Independents and Wythall Residents' Coalition. They will have 11 members serving on nine committees, one more than previously. Cllr Luck said: "As a group we are endeavouring to stop this political infighting that so bedevills local government in Bromsgrove and hope we are able to bring more balanced and constructive points of view to debates."
