Years ago when industry was being developed in this country it was very much area based industry where many raw materials were sourced either by imports or those which were home grown and then transported to an area for manufacturing. Properties were often built to house specific industries and no more so than the north light carpet factories, which were built in Victorian times, in Kidderminster.

What a change over the last 100 years in that many of the Dickensian factories which served local businesses have now been demolished and even properties which were built in the ‘50s and ‘60s have also been proved not to be versatile enough for today’s industrial and manufacturing needs.

The Stourport Road area of town is an example of where much redevelopment has taken place and we now look at state of the art buildings which are not only physically attractive but are built to be energy efficient, versatile and efficient for the businesses they serve. Perhaps one might say that these buildings are stereotyped throughout the whole of the country but they attract businesses which need to be efficient workplaces and accessible for the delivery of raw materials and distribution of the final manufactured goods.
