Jazz star for festival
THE Bromsgrove Festival continues this week with a string of exciting shows.
One of the biggest names in traditional jazz, the Chris Barber Big Band, make their debut in Bromsgrove on Friday.
They are appearing at the Artrix theatre in School Drive from 7.45pm, with tickets costing between £19 and £20.
The following day at the same venue, there will be a concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the death of composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The concert features performances from the English Symphony Orchestra and the Elgar Chorale Soloists, Roderick Williams, Naomi Harvey and James Clark.
The conductor will be Dr Donald Hunt OBE. Programme of music by Vaughan Williams features The Wasps', Shakespeare Songs', The Lark Ascending' and The Sea Symphony'.
The show begins at 7.45pm with tickets costing £19 and £20.
Finally, next Thursday (May 15, 7.45pm), at St John's Church, Hagley, there will be a performance from the European Union Chamber Orchestra directed by Mark Gothoni.
The show will feature performances from two past finalists of the Bromsgrove Festival Young Musicians Platform,
Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin) and Fanny Clamagirand (violin).
Tickets cost between £19 and £20, or for limited visibility seats, £15 to £16.
