THE organisers of an annual opera evening are hoping to hit the right note to help raise money for families affected by childhood cancer.

Tickets are now on sale for the musical event, which is being co-ordinated by Worcester Opera committee, and will take place at the city’s cathedral on Thursday, June 25.

For the sixth year running Pavilion Opera have been invited to entertain and will be giving a performance of Puccini’s Opera, Tosca.

All the profits raised from the evening will benefit children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent and Worcester Cathedral Music Endowment Fund.

There will be a pre-performance reception from 6-7pm at the Worcester Porcelain Museum, which will be followed by the performance at Worcester Cathedral from 7.15pm.

The dress code for the evening is smart lounge suits and tickets cost £60. As a special offer, available for a limited time only, any teacher paying the full price for a ticket will be able to bring two music students for free.

Half the proceeds of the event will be used to benefit CLIC Sargent, which aims to ease the burden of childhood cancer on children, young people and their families. The charity provides a range of services, including frontline services staff as well as financial grants to help families cope with the increased costs of having a child with cancer.

Locally CLIC Sargent provides a specialist nurse based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, and is currently supporting 29 Worcestershire families in hospital and at home.

Community fundraising manager Lindsay Manning said: “We are delighted to be one of the causes to benefit from what I’m sure will be a fantastic event. The opera evening is the perfect opportunity to have a good night out and help raise money for a great cause.”
