Rihanna has shocked many fans with her latest music video, which features nudity, bad language and gory violence.

The singer, who unveiled her new single Bitch Better Have My Money, isn’t the only star who has seen a NSFW label stamped on her music video.

She joins the likes of Lady Gaga, Madonna and Robin Thicke.

1. Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell Williams and TI – Blurred Lines

Not only did the track cause a furore with women’s rights groups, the uncensored version of the video – featuring almost-naked women cavorting around fully-clothed men – didn’t help matters. The song was banned from a number of university campuses in the UK.

2. The Prodigy – Smack My B***h Up

Jonas Akerlund made a name for himself with this video, which was once voted the most controversial music video aired by MTV and was banned by the BBC upon its release. Drugs, drink-driving, sex and nudity feature in a night out gone wrong.

3. Lady Gaga featuring R Kelly – Do What U Want

The video for this song is so scandalous it has never been officially released, except a 30-second clip on TMZ. Directed by controversial filmmaker Terry Richardson, the video starred Lady Gaga as R Kelly’s patient, who told her: “I’m putting you under, and when you wake up, you’re going to be pregnant.” A source told the New York Post that the video was, “literally an ad for rape.”

4. 2 Live Crew – Me So Horny

The raunchy video is taken from 2 Live Crew’s explicit album As Nasty As They Wanna Be, one of the first albums to be given the Parental Advisory sticker. The record was banned in the group’s native state of Florida.

5. Madonna – Like A Prayer

No stranger to controversy, Madge caused a storm without nudity or gore, but by combining sex and Christianity for the video of Like A Prayer. Scenes of her dancing in a field of burning crosses and dancing with a saint in a church enraged the Vatican.

6. Sia – Elastic Heart

Critics of Sia’s music video claimed the video, which starred 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler and 28-year-old actor Shia LaBeouf cage-fighting in a skin-coloured leotard, had paedophilic overtones.

7. Pearl Jam – Jeremy

This video tells the true story of Jeremy Delle, who committed suicide at school in front of his class. While it won several MTV Video Music Awards, it has also been blamed for inspiring a school shooting in 1996.

8. Duran Duran – Girls On Film

Nowadays, Duran Duran’s offering would be seen as rather tame. The uncensored version of the music video features models wearing see-through lingerie, or nothing at all, with a lot of sexual innuendo and phallic imagery. While MTV and the BBC banned the video, it went on to win a Grammy Award.
