HAGLEY’S young actors are getting set for this week’s performance of critically acclaimed fairy tale musical Into the Woods.

Hagley Theatre Group’s Youth Section will stage their production between Wednesday (October 14) and Saturday (October 17) at 7.30pm in the village community centre, off Worcester Road.

The youth section has been staging shows for 25 years and the group’s recent successes includes Les Miserable and Grease.

Their current show – which is suitable for all members of the family – mixes together several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, with characters taken from popular stories including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel.

The plot involves a baker and his wife’s search for a potion’s ingredients that will help them begin a family with their quest taking them deep into strange woods full of witches, wolves, giants and mysterious strangers.

Stephen Sondheim co-wrote the lyrics to this show and his past credit credits include West Side Story and Gypsy.

For some of the cast, Into the Woods will their last show before they move off to university, meaning the company is short of male members.

Anyone interested in joining the youth section – from year 7 upwards – can speak to leaders after the show, or leave a message on the society’s ticket line.

Tickets costing £10, or £8 for concessions, are available from Paddock Butchers in Hagley, or by calling the ticket line on 07907 457217.
