THE band that took folk music from small, local clubs to the world of gold discs and international tours is paying a visit to Redditch’s Palace Theatre.

Since their debut in 1969, Steeleye Span have been one of the most influential names in British roots music. Pioneers of folk-rock, Steeleye Span changed the face of folk music forever, with past and present line-ups virtually a who’s who of the British folk scene.

Their 2009 tour will see the band celebrate an incredible forty years together, an achievement made all the more remarkable by the fact that the band has seldom been more active.

At a period in their career when most bands are happy to settle down to rehashing past glories, Steeleye Span have pushed on with a succession of acclaimed albums, each seeing them re-define their classic sound.

The current line-up of Maddy Prior, Peter Knight, Liam Genockey, Ken Nicol and Peter Zorn will be at the Palace on Wednesday, April 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £19/20 and are available on 01527 65203.
