THE Snowman returns to Birmingham Repertory Theatre in the New Year to delight young and old alike

The show runs from January 11 to 15, with its wonderful mix of storytelling, spectacle and magic.

And this year, the show will feature a brand new recording of the iconic song Walking in the Air in a new arrangement by Howard Blake and sung by Aled Jones.

Earlier this year Aled asked composer Howard Blake to create a new arrangement of Walking in the Air whereby he could duet with his younger (recorded) self. The new arrangement features on Aled’s latest album One Voice at Christmas, which has just reached number one in the Classic FM charts, and will now also feature in The Snowman on stage.

Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, this stage show has now transported generations of children and their families into the wintery world of a boy and his magical snowman.

The Snowman is a much-loved festive tradition that returns home to Birmingham following its 19th consecutive year at The Peacock in London.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production features music and lyrics by Howard Blake (performed by a live orchestra), choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

The enchanting show tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve.

Featuring a dazzling array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, magical reindeer, a beautiful snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas himself, The Snowman is a Christmas treat for all the family and a perfect introduction to theatre for the very young.
