BLACK COUNTRY and north Worcestershire school leavers considering their career prospects are being invited to pick up top tips at a free advice event this month.

A host of high-profile speakers will be on hand to inspire teenagers at an All Stars Open Day held at University College Birmingham on Saturday, January 20.

Among them is Great Britain hurdler Julz Adeniran, who was given his big break in Bromsgrove in 2005 when he was spotted running at a schools sports gala.

Wannabe chefs and bakers will also have the opportunity to hear from Miss Macaroon founder Rosie Ginday and Michelin-starred chef and TV presenter Glynn Purnell.

Em Ford, a beauty vlogger with over a million Instagram followers, and Poundland founder Steve Smith will also feature, among names from other industries.

The event includes a total of 13 talks designed to reflect the industry sectors, which are aimed at Year 10 and 11 students considering their next steps.

Event organiser Stephanie Galloway said: “Choosing what you want to do after GCSEs can be extremely difficult, with not everyone suiting the traditional A-level route.

“We thought, how about giving prospective students the chance to hear the first-hand experiences of some of today’s most inspirational people in the sectors we represent?

“These fantastic, free-entry talks will run alongside our usual open day presentations and facilities tours, and we are confident students considering their next steps will come away excited about the future.

“There is also the chance to quiz the speakers, which should be really enlightening.”

The majority of the guest talks will take place across UCB’s McIntyre House in Holland Street, Birmingham, with slots are 10am or 11am.

The event forms part of UCB’s open day, which takes place between 11am and 3pm.
