SHOPPERS in Birmingham were treated to a series of five free secret gigs from popular indie rock band Young Runaways last weekend, joined by a cast of festival-goers in wellies and fancy dress.

The OxjamBrum Pop-Up Festival, which visited a number of shops before ending with a surprise show in Birmingham city centre, saw the group - which uses violin, keys, trumpet and trombone alongside more traditional instruments - play impromptu sets for fans and passing members of the public.

The event marked the beginning of a three month countdown to the popular OxjamBrum Takeover Festival, set to take place this year on October 13 in Birmingham city centre.

Band frontman and lead singer Matt Pinfield said: “The band absolutely loved it. Imagine the magical mystery tour but with more roll neck sweaters and second hand board games.”
