Major boost for the arts
A POPULAR programme of performing arts has been given a welcome funding boost.
The Arts Council has announced that Shindig, which brings the world of live music, theatre and entertainment to community venues, such as village halls across the county, will receive £45,565 in the next financial year. Funding has also been secured for two more years after that, rising with inflation to £48,059 in 2010/11.
The cash is good news for Shindig, which is part funded by Bromsgrove District Council and which has attracted a combined audience of more than 20,000 in the four years since it started.

Manda Graham, Worcestershire County Council's temporary arts officer, said: "Shindig is a fantastic scheme that brings music, theatre and entertainment, from old favourites to family shows, to venues up and down the county. And with more than 21,000 people attending a Shindig show over the last three years, we are delighted that the Arts Council has decided to support this popular project.

"Shindig has been an outstanding success since day one. We are very grateful to all the voluntary promoters who work with us to bring fantastic performances to communities around Worcestershire and look forward to the next exciting four years."
Shindig is funded and managed by a partnership of Worcestershire County Council, and six district councils - Bromsgrove, Malvern Hills, Redditch, Worcester, Wychavon and Wyre Forest. It also receives significant regular funding from Arts Council England.
It aims to build community cohesion through offering people an opportunity to get together.
