Fans’ group prepare next step

A CONSORTIUM aiming to complete a buy-out of Bromsgrove Rovers have called for talks with the club's hierarchy, as they prepare to submit a new offer.

A statement from the group, fronted by five ex-Rovers directors and the Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society, says they are ready to table another bid for the club "within the next few days".

Geoff Bayley, one of the consortium's figureheads, is hopeful of setting up a meeting with the Greens' chairman Tom Herbert.

"He has come out and said his door is always open so we are going to take his word," said Bayley.

"We are writing to him to request a meeting. We have registered a bid and we are reiterating that.

"Until Mr Herbert said what he recently said, we didn't think it would be possible to get everyone around the table.

"It is too easy to talk about what kind of money is involved until we know where the finances are at."

Another member of the consortium, Paul Wilkes, said details of the new bid had yet to be finalised, but believes it would be a good deal for the club.

"We believe the club to be experiencing substantial difficulties at present and this bid will represent a realistic and achievable way forward," he said.

Herbert responded by saying he would welcome a meeting if the group tabled a reasonable offer for the club.

He rejected claims that the club was in a poor financial state, and said season ticket sales had improved.

"We are trying to run a football club and run it successfully," said Herbert.

"All they have to do is table an offer and if it is one that is a reasonable offer we will have a meeting.

"At this moment the season tickets are going better than they were last season."
