A BROMSGROVE youngster has seen his vision become a reality after doing his bit to support a successful medalist in the summer’s Paralympics.
Earlier this year the Advertiser reported on Chadsgrove School pupil Jayson Yates who designed a unique soft toy mascot to bring good luck to Paralympian Jon-Allan Butterworth.
The competition was organised by Droitwich firm AKW, which specialises in designing and manufacturing products for people with special needs, and the 11-year-old was named as one of two winners in the competition, with his design of a multi-coloured mascot.
And his mascot proved lucky as Jon-Allan claimed three silvers in the London games, in the C4-5 one kilometre time trial, C5 four kilometre pursuit and the C1-C5 team sprint.
The three events were all personal bests for the Paralympian cyclist.
Jon-Allan has visited the Meadow Road-based school to present a real life toy version of the mascot to Jayson, as well as show off his three silver medals to the school’s youngsters.
Jon-Allan said: “I would like to congratulate Jayson who produced a really creative design, and I hope the toy serves as a special reminder of the competition and the Paralympic Games itself.
“Chadsgrove School has really supported me throughout my Paralympic campaign and that really means a lot.”
