Students need licence to watch live TV
STUDENTS in Worcestersihre may be unaware of the law for watching live TV online, according to research commissioned by TV Licensing.
Nationally, more than a quarter – 28 per cent – of new students wrongly believe that they do not need a TV Licence when watching or streaming live TV on their laptop.
The new findings also reveal that almost a third of students – 31 per cent – think they do not need a TV Licence when streaming or watching live TV on a mobile device.
Students who watch live programmes as they are being shown on TV, without a TV Licence, risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
Mark Whitehouse, the TV Licensing spokesman for the West Midlands, said: “Our new research shows how important it is for students to understand the law when it comes to watching live TV.
"We’re working with universities around the UK to ensure students who want to watch live TV can do so legally and with the peace of mind that they are on the right side of the law.”
A TV Licence, costing £145.50, can be bought online at tvlicensing.co.uk/studentinfo or by calling 0300 7906113.

To prove that this is nothing more than BBC PR made to look like a legitimate news article, Mark Whitehouse is the Deputy managing director, Clarke Associates. He doesn't work for BBC TV Licensing, he does their Public Relations

Times are tough without being convinced you have to pay out for something you don’t have to, another moral failing?
