Decision on KFC to be made next week
10:20am Monday 29th October 2012 in News
BROMSGROVE planners could give the go-ahead to plans to build a new Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) drive-thru restaurant next week.
In September, the Advertiser reported that a planning application to demolish the Sugarbrook pub on the junction of Charford Road, Stoke Road and the A38 and build the restaurant, had been submitted to Bromsgrove District Council.
Originally a decision on the application was to be made by town planners before October 11, but this was delayed when councillor for Charford, Sean Shannon, requested the application be considered by the council’s planning committee.
The application is now to be determined at the committee’s next meeting, being held next Monday, November 5.
Officers have recommended the application be approved.
The application, submitted by Savill agents for the giant US-based corporation, reveals the restaurant would create 41 jobs - 13 full time and 28 part time.
It is proposed the restaurant would be open between 6am-11.30pm throughout the week, including bank holidays.
Consultations were held with nearby residents, and involved South Bromsgrove High School, in Charford Road.
An officers’ report has been prepared which says the majority of objections have been based on concerns to increased traffic in the area. However, the report states it is not considered that the proposed outlet would have an adverse impact on highway safety.
Issues were also raised on healthy eating issues, as the fast food outlet would be in close proximity to the school.
The report says, as Bromsgrove has a lack of adopted planning policy on this issue, it would be difficult to substantiate the proposal’s proximity to the school as a reason for refusing the application.
If the application is given approval by committee members, it looks set to have a number of conditions placed on it including putting a three-year time limit for work on the site to begin.
