A STATE-OF-THE-ART gym and dance studio are being added to a popular Bromsgrove leisure centre.

The Ryland Centre, in New Road, provides sporting facilities for youngsters, and facilities for the wider community that meet accessibility standards for disabled people.

In September the Advertiser reported that the running of the Worcestershire County Council-owned venue was being transferred to the Sandwell Leisure Trust (SLT).

On Monday, October 29, contractors began work on redeveloping and improving the centre.

A gym, featuring cardio, weights and training areas, is being added to the facility. After work is completed, the gym will be ready to open to the public in January.

The new dance studio will host a programme of group fitness classes.

Ryland Centre’s manager, Michelle Jones, said: "These are exciting times for the centre which has a great history of offering sports and activities to the local community.

"The centre will continue to be home to local clubs that provide activities for people of all ages.

"We are very excited about making improvements to the facility so that it can be used by more residents in Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas.”
