A PEDESTRIAN pathway across the Spadesbourne Brook has been closed after safety concerns.

The bridge, in Market Street near to Bromsgrove’s public toilets, was closed after Bromsgrove District Council officers spotted a potential structural problem with the bridge.

A structural engineer was called who confirmed that work is needed for the bridge to again meet the required British standards.

The bridge has been closed as a precautionary measure and signs have been put up warning the public.

Councillor Michael Webb, whose portfolio covers leisure and cultural services, said: “People’s safety is our main concern and thanks to officers’ diligence, we identified a possible issue with the bridge and can take action immediately.”

A district council spokesman added that the council was currently looking into the repairing of the bridge.
