THE Basement Project in New Road, Bromsgrove, has announced a new program called “4ward 2 the Future” aimed at supporting homeless young people by providing information and knowledge from specialists who will help create better futures for them.

The program will run at the Basement every Saturday morning commencing from November 17 until Spring 2013, except for two weeks over Christmas, and will consist of opportunities for young people to meet openly with health and business professionals and take part in workshops to develop skills and gain knowledge.

The sessions will run from 11am until noon and young people can drop in for a chat without the need to make an appointment and these sessions will cover subjects as diverse as personal health and wellbeing, creating first impressions at interviews, writing CVs, managing money, basic cooking skills and more.

At the same time as sessions run, Basement staff will be available in the drop in area from 10am until 12.30pm to support tyoung people in need of help and advice who cannot attend the normal opening hours of Monday to Friday.

The program is being run in partnership with the St. Vincent de Paul Society based at Our Lady of Carmel Church in Redditch.

Jackie Hooper, Basement’s project manager, said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with our colleagues from Redditch and offer this additional service to young people in Bromsgrove and North Worcestershire that we hope will help them create better futures for themselves.

“We are also grateful both to the professionals who have offered their services on a voluntary basis and to our staff and volunteers for giving up their Saturday mornings.”

Steve Martin, a representative from St Vincent de Paul in Redditch, added, “We see our partnership with the Basement as an important outreach from our organisation and we hope we can make a difference to people's lives.”

The project will initially run for six months. If it is successful the partners will consider seeking funding to make it a more permanent feature.
