A PUPIL from a town school has been given a prestigious award.

Robert Stirrat studies in the Lower Sixth Form at Bromsgrove School and was one of 1103 applicants who sat an aptitude test for an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.

Named after the innovative engineer Sir Richard Arkwright - often referred to as the “father” of the factory system – the Arkwright Scholarships Trust provides the scholarship in order to assist and encourage students to pursue engineering or related areas of design, taking up a career in the field.

Nearly 500 applicants progressed to the interview stage and, after a rigorous selection process, the 16-year-old was selected as one of those to receive a scholarship.

Earlier this month Robert attended an awards ceremony, held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology building in London, to receive his scholarship.
