FUND-RAISERS at a Bromsgrove school are gearing up for a special Zumba event raising money to help a pupil, struck by a rare condition.

Generous townsfolk are being encouraged to support the fund-raiser being held at North Bromsgrove High School this Monday, (November 26).

Lauren Rowles, a year 10 pupil at the School Drive-based school, suffers from Transverse Myelitis a rare disease of the central nervous system, and is now in a wheelchair after the loss of sensation and movement from her chest downwards.

A campaign is underway to raise £14,000 for a FES bike, which will help prevent muscle wasting in her legs by increasing blood circulation, relaxing muscle spasms and providing a cardiovascular workout.

At the end of October the school held a fund-raising day of fun activities, which helped them raise more than £5,000 towards the target.

The Bromsgrove branch of ASDA has also chosen to support Lauren’s charity. Customers can vote for the charity to receive a cash boost, which could be as much as £200.

A one-off zumba fitness event is being held at the school, from 6pm, as part of the next fund-raising activities.

Open to all, the Zumba session lasts one hour, and costs £4.
