Civic head drops in on town greyhound centre
10:30am Thursday 22nd November 2012 in News
BROMSGROVE’S civic head has been showing her support for a charity dedicated to dogs, through a visit to its town kennels.
The Hall Green Retired Greyhound Trust (HGRGT) care for greyhounds, with the purpose of finding them a loving home after their racing days are over.
The trust has re-homing kennels in Stourbridge Road, near Belbroughton, and currently 28 hounds are in the kennels while permanent homes are found for them.
The home has several volunteers who attend daily to walk and socialise with the dogs.
On November 14, the council’s civic head, Janice Boswell, enjoyed a tour of the facility and met some of the hounds needing a home.
Christina Fowler, from HGRGT, said it was fantastic to welcome the civic head, who enjoyed meeting the volunteers and seeing the greyhounds.
“We have successfully re-homed 128 hounds so far this year,” Christina said.
“We would welcome volunteers who would be interested in assisting at awareness events, join our dog walkers rota or offer a fostering service for certain dogs who require extra care and or socialisation.”
