A BROMSGROVE school pupil has been recognised for his sporting prowess.

Tom Banton, aged 14, who goes to Bromsgrove School, has been chosen as School Sport Magazine’s sporting schoolboy of the year.

He is an outstanding cricketer who regularly puts in eye-catching performances for the school team and has also been selected in the U15 hockey team of Nottingham’s Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC).

The award, sponsored this year by equipment specialists Maude Sports, is based on achievements during the 2011/12 school year and is awarded to a pupil who has broken all school sporting records, scored an extraordinary number of goals, tries, runs or points for their school team in whatever sport they play, been the match winner on the way to a national title or overcome great personal odds just to compete and achieve.

Publishing editor Phil Tusler said: “The category was especially competitive this year but his win is fully deserved.”

Details of all the award winners are in the new edition of School Sport Magazine as well as on the magazine’s website at schoolsportmag.co.uk
