VOLUNTEERS interested in supporting a new library service in Catshill are invited to an informal event being held this month.

Following a 12-week consultation, plans are now progressing to recruit volunteers to support a library in the Community Room at Catshill Middle School.

During the consultation Worcestershire County Council's libraries and learning team received a positive response from individuals who were interested in the variety of volunteer roles.

The interested parties, and anyone else interested in becoming a volunteer, are being urged to come forward now.

The informal event is being held on Wednesday, December 19, at 7pm, at the Meadow Road-based school.

Information on the voluntary opportunities will be provided and those in attendance will be able to share their ideas and enjoy some light refreshments.

There is no need to book or reserve a place, just turn up on the night.

Councillor John Campion, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member with responsibility for the libraries and learning service, said: "We were really pleased with the response to the recent consultation around the future delivery of Catshill Library.

“We are now preparing more details and want to share this with the local community to help work out what role individuals and community groups could play.”

Councillor Sheila Blagg added: "I'm very excited about the future for Catshill Library and I would encourage as many local people who are interested to come along to this informal event.

“It's really important volunteers are recruited early in the New Year and a training programme started ready for a proposed opening date in April 2013."
