A BROMSGROVE youngster is preparing to cut off her ponytail in support of a charity helping young cancer patients.

Skylar Weaver will be cutting off 35cm of her hair at Sanders Park’s bandstand between 11am-noon this Sunday, (December 16).

Her off cuts are then to be donated to the Little Princess Trust charity that, from hair donated, provides wigs to young children who have suffered hair loss as a result of chemotherapy treatment.

The St John Middle School pupil was inspired to support the charity after her granddad was diagnosed with cancer.

Mum, Kate Weaver, said: “We were discussing how hard it must be for young children losing their hair, and Skylar wanted to do something to help them.

“She is also being sponsored and wanted to raise £100, but we have already smashed that.

“The ultimate aim now would be to raise £500 - that would be unbelievable.

"I honestly couldn't be prouder.”

Skylar said: “I hope my hair will make children with cancer very happy instead of sad - this is why I am donating it to The Little Princess Trust.”

Skylar’s eight-year-old brother, Colby, is also helping the fund-raising drive by selling hand-made cakes at the bandstand event.

So far £295 has been collected, with all money raised being donated to Cancer Research UK.

The 10-year-old is encouraging people to make a donation and boost her final total by visiting Skylar’s fund-raising website, justgiving.com/skylar-reece.
