YOUNGSTERS are being asked to give their views on things to do in Bromsgrove as part of a review being carried out by town councillors.

The issue is being considered by a Bromsgrove District Council task group, which is looking into what positive activities are available to young people and how they might be improved.

As part of the group’s work, members will investigate the opportunities for young people provided by the Artrix, the Trunk in Charford, and several sports facilities across Bromsgrove.

It will also scrutinise how accessible youth services are, and identify any barriers to participation.

Group members will make visits to places that host youth activities and for a comparison will also visit another local authority that has carried out a similar review.

The group’s first meeting was held in December, and young people are now being invited to have their say on what they think about activities available in their neighbourhoods and what they would change if they could.

Task group leader and Alvechurch councillor June Griffiths said: “A good review of this should help the council where it can to address the real needs of young people living in the district.

“Through this task group we will promote existing activities and try to identify and suggest improvements for any gaps in provision.

“It’s research that will help to improve our children’s quality of life and future prospects.”

The task group is expected to take six months to review the issue.

As well as hearing from local young people, the task group will also be hearing from representatives of the voluntary sector, the police and local councils as it builds a picture of what positive activities are available.
