Rings of sentimental value stolen from Bromsgrove house while owner away for Christmas

ITEMS of jewellery which were of significant sentimental value were stolen from a house in Bromsgrove while the elderly owner was away for Christmas.

An untidy search was made by thieves after they forced their way into the property in Birmingham Road some time between December 23 and 28.

The burglars were selective in what they took, leaving behind some costume jewellery but taking more valuable items such as an 18-carat gold signet ring worth around £100 which had the initials GH engraved on it, and two 18ct gold engagement rings which were each worth about £200. One was inset with three diamonds and sapphires and the other had three diamonds set into it.

Detective Constable Tony Flannagan of Bromsgrove CID said: "These rings were of particular sentimental value to the owner and to have them stolen this way over the Christmas is all the more distressing.

"If anyone remembers seeing anything or hearing anything suspicious in Birmingham Road around that period then please let us know, particularly any vehicles parked there in unusual circumstances.

"The stolen property may be offered for sale so if rings like this are presented to you and you are not sure they are from a legitimate source then please contact us as we would like to reunite them with their owner."

Detectives can be contacted at Bromsgrove CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the incident reference 105-N-281212.

West Mercia Police's anti-burglary initiative Citadel is continuing to stress the need for householders to take positive action to secure their properties and let the police know immediately if they see any suspicious activity or think they know someone who is involved in breaking into people's homes.

Anyone who prefers to give information anonymously can do so by ringing the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
