Motion of no confidence in West Mercia police and crime commissioner is lost

A NOTICE of 'no confidence' in police and crime commissioner Bill Longmore has not gone ahead after the majority of county councillors abstained or voted against it.

Just four councillors backed the motion, by Worcestershire County Council’s Labour group, with 27 voting against and 18 abstaining.

The council’s Labour group wants Bill Longmore and his deputy Barrie Sheldon to consider their positions.

It was Mr Sheldon’s £50,000-a-year appointment which sparked the move and has caused Mr Longmore to come under fire from politicians and members of the public across the force area.

Criticisms included accusations of “cronyism”.
