GRITTING teams are continuing the battle to keep the county’s roads clear with more snow forecast.

Worcestershire County Council workers are racking up the miles as they head out yet again to prepare for a fresh influx of snowfall.

Occasional flurries of snow and sleet are expected this afternoon, which may turn heavier overnight from around 10pm with possible accumulations of 2 - 4cm and a risk of up to 7cm on higher ground.

Gritting teams went out on the roads from 2pm today to cover all designated routes. Once primary routes are completed, winter service inspections will commence, with snow ploughs fitted to vehicles to help clear away accumulated snow and slush to give drivers the best possible conditions for Wednesday morning.

Latest MET Office forecasts indicate the last of the snow should fizzle out during Thursday afternoon, followed by a clearer night with a hard frost persisting until at least midnight on Friday.

Motorists are again being urged to drive with caution, remember that gritting is not a miracle solution, and temper their driving according to the conditions. Despite roads looking clear, the extreme freezing temperatures means there's still a significant risk of ice.

To help residents pinpoint their nearest grit bin an interactive map is available at worcestershire.gov.uk/gritting, which allows users to search by postcode.
