FOUR men have been charged with murder as part of an investigation by West Mercia Police into an incident at HMP Hewell on Monday, January 28.
Prisoner Adnan Rafiq, aged 25 and from Moseley, Birmingham, was found with serious assault injuries at the Tardebigge prison on Monday afternoon.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on Thursday evening.
After he was found, West Mercia Police launched an investigation and arrested four other inmates on suspicion of attempted murder later on Monday 28.
Following the death of Mr Rafiq, they were charged last night with murder.
They are Jahnel Faure, 28 and originally from West Bromwich; Jermaine Christie, aged 27, originally from Birmingham and later Telford; Paul Coulter, aged 27, originally from Swansea and Barry Mundle aged 34, originally from Wolverhampton.
Christie and Coulter appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court today while Faure and Mundle appeared at Kidderminster and Redditch Magistrates' courts respectively.
All were returned to prison custody and referred to Birmingham Crown Court where they are appearing together on Tuesday morning.
