Raiders target Bromsgrove charity shop
8:00am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in News
THE manager of a Bromsgrove charity shop is appealing for help to catch thieves who broke into the store, stealing hundreds of pounds.
The break-in at the YMCA shop based at Bromsgrove retail park, off Birmingham Road, happened overnight on Thursday, March 14.
Having forced their way in, offenders managed to break open the store’s till taking £291 inside.
A red collection tin for the charity, containing £20, was also stolen.
The incident follows a similar break-in, in February, at Oxfam Books and Music in High Street. In that break-in, thieves caused hundreds of pounds of damage, but failed in an attempt to get money from a safe.
Jill Bourne, YMCA shop’s manager, said they were now reviewing security at the shop.
“It looks like there’s a bit of a spate of break-in at charity shops,” she said.
“Police are looking at CCTV at the moment - it looks like we were broken into at 11.20pm that night.”
A spokesman for Bromsgrove police said they were investigating the incident, and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Information can be passed to the police by calling non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference number 107-S-150313. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
