Women set to take on Middle East charity trek
2:10pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
A GROUP of women are set to head to the Middle East for a daring charity trek.
Hanbury resident Colleen Budge, Karen Armstrong, from Bradley Green, and Jo Eales, Alison Webb and Sue Simpson, all from Barnt Green, will be leaving for Jordan on Friday, April 19.
They will be participating in the Britain v Cancer Jordan Trek and aim to raise as much money as possible for their chosen cause.
The group will trek across the varied landscape of the country, which borders Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Israel, in aid of Birmingham Cancer Research Centre.
Group member Colleen Budge said: “We are friends who have been meeting for the last couple of years to read books and drink wine.
“We are calling ourselves the Book Club Trekkers and decided to take on the challenge at a friend’s 50th birthday party.
“We have chosen this charity because they carry out research into all cancers regardless of age or gender and have a School of Cancer Studies based in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the University of Birmingham.”
