Bromsgrove man caught with drugs given suspended jail sentence
2:20pm Monday 19th August 2013 in News
A BROMSGROVE man caught with cannabis and cocaine has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Christopher Lewis, 24, who has a long history of drug use, was caught with the drugs when police twice raided his flat in Burcot Lane, said Paul Whitfield, prosecuting.
Lewis maintained that the drugs were for personal use but analysis of his mobile phone showed he had been dealing. He eventually pleaded guilty to intending to supply the drugs.
Christopher Gibbons, mitigating, submitted references and said it was the first time that Lewis had got into supplying.
This was to fund his own habit and pay off drug debts.
Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins QC said he had received a letter which showed how Lewis had been drawn into drug use. Supervision by the probation service during the suspended sentence would enable Lewis to undergo 25 sessions on an anti-drug programme.
The judge also ordered that £195 cash found by police in their raids last June and December should be seized.
