A BROMSGROVE youngster, touched by the plight of underprivileged children around the world, has raised money for charity through a generous gesture.

Raajan Singh Judge saw an advert for the Wateraid charity, which improves access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation.

Inspired to do something the Lickey End youngster filled a plastic container with tap water, and came up with the plan to post it to the children he saw in the advert; so that they would have clean water.

After mum, Jay, explained to her kindhearted son that this wouldn’t work, Raajan said he still wanted to do something.

This led the determined Lickey End First School pupil to tell his family he wanted no presents for his sixth birthday, instead generously asking for donations to the charity.

Ahead of his birthday party, which was held on August 17, Raajan wrote to his friends to explain his fund-raising plan.

Afterwards, all the donations were counted up and it was discovered an impressive £500 had been raised.

“Raajan was so pleased and said that it is so 'awesome' now that they can build a well, and children won't have to walk for miles for clean water," his mum said.

“When I contacted Wateraid to make the donation they actually stated that £500 will allow at least 20 communities to have a water hand pump.

“I can't believe the amount that has been collected - it's been heart-warming that people have donated so much but they have all commented it is an amazing that a six-year-old has given up on having presents.

“We are so proud of Raajan,” she added.
