Bromsgrove teenager treated 15-year-old sex victim badly

A BROMSGROVE teenager who has sex with a 15-year-old girl was told by a judge his behaviour left a lot to be desired.
Michael Burnell, 19, of Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove, chatted the victim up when he was a DJ at a party and while working behind a bar.
He then sent her sexual texts and invited her to visit his flat, Worcester Crown Court heard.
The girl was willing and he told her to pick up condoms at a supermarket on the way to see him, said Mary Wallace, prosecuting.
After doing what she was told, the victim later joined him naked in bed, when intercourse took place.
The girl's mother found out what had been going on by checking her daughter's phone.
Burnell pleaded guilty to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two charges of sexual activity with a girl under 16. He was given a three-year conditional discharge and ordered to register as a sex offender for three years.
Richard Hull, mitigating, said the sex had been consensual and the girl was only two weeks away from her 16th birthday. Burnell was full of remorse and regret, and was sorry for the way he had behaved.
Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins QC said although Burnell was a man of good character and in full-time work, his behaviour left a lot to be desired. Although the girl was interested in continuing their relationship, he had treated her badly by dumping her.
