7:30am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
MORE than 20,000 revellers lined the streets of Belbroughton to glimpse the straw stuffed creations on show as part of the village’s 16th annual scarecrow festival.
Organisers hailed the weekend’s two-day event, which went under the theme of the Best of British, a massive success.
Villagers young and old pulled out all the stops to create a whole host of ex-straw special scarecrows with creations on show including Posh and Becks, Morecambe and Wise, The Beatles and Simon Cowell complete with baby.
Other popular attractions included a farmers' market, champagne and cider tent, bungi trampolines, water and land zorbs, a stream train and face painting.
Event spokesperson Annette Adey said: “We had an amazing festival - around 22,000 people attended - the weather was brilliant which helped and we were delighted with the way it went.
“The quality of the scarecrows was fantastic - the villagers put in such a lot of effort.”
Annette said 8,000 pork baps were sold over the weekend.
There was also craft stalls, animals on show by Dudley Zoo and a bell ringing demonstration in Holy Trinity Church.
This year’s theme was selected from a competition for the children of Belbroughton and was suggested by Scarlett Vaughan, age nine, as was the programme cover, which was drawn by Poppy Crabtree, also age nine.
All proceeds from the event go to local charities.
