Bromsgrove Festival is to be relaunched
8:00am Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in News
THE future of Bromsgrove Festival has been secured following the election of an ambitious new group.
Established in 1960, the festival has been run for more than 20 years as a celebration of mainly classical music by a council, led by Dr Mary White.
In August, the Advertiser reported on a public meeting held to discuss the festival’s future.
A new group was formed which wants to relaunch the event, expanding it into a wider arts and cultural celebration.
The festival’s annual general meeting has now been held, with new directors elected that are going ahead with these plans.
The team says it wants to return to the festival’s roots by reintroducing drama, film, dance, visual arts and other creative aspects to the festival programme.
Bromsgrove Festival 2014 is to take place between June 14 and July 20 and will feature productions, concerts, exhibitions and events from a number of groups.
Many members of Bromsgrove Arts Alive - an umbrella organisation formed to promote the rich variety and tradition of arts activity in the town - are already showing their support by scheduling events to fall in the festival period.
And festival organisers are encouraging more local groups to get involved and to contact them for inclusion in the 2014 programme.
Various town venues are to be used including the Artrix theatre, Grafton Manor, St John’s Church and Avoncroft Museum.
In previous years a main feature of the festival has been the Young Musician’s Platform - a prestigious competition showcasing upcoming talented musicians.
It has been announced the forum will continue but independently from Bromsgrove Festival.
The competition will be held annually in April, under the new name; the Bromsgrove International Young Musicians’ Competition.
The festival’s website, which is currently being updated, is bromsgrovefestival.co.uk.
