A SPECTACULAR Christmas lights display at a Finstall home is attracting national attention after raising thousands for two charities.

Malcolm and Wendy Molly first began decorating their Alcester Road home with Christmas lights and decorations in 2004.

Every year since the pair have added to their collection, which has spread throughout their house and into their front garden and onto the roof.

Included in the display are lights of Father Christmas, snowmen, Christmas trees, reindeers, and a train on tracks delivering presents.

The early displays began gaining interest from villagers nine years ago and it quickly became an annual tradition that has attracted crowds from further afield.

The couple decided to turn it into a fund-raiser, registering to support charities Birmingham Children's Hospital and the Primrose Hospice.

A collection box was added outside, and over the years more than £25,000 has been raised for the charities.

Wendy said: "The first year of collecting money we raised £120, which we thought was good.

"Last year we raised £3,500, and we are looking forward to hopefully raising the same again this year."

Wendy said that although the display has continued to grow it had now got to a stage where they are likely to simply replace the lights.

"At the moment there is so much to see that it is hard to describe it all," she said.

"We wouldn't want to put up too much more as we don't want to spoil it by having too much."

Wendy said the pair were shocked when they discovered how much townsfolk looked forward to the display each year.

It has become so well known national media have started showing an interest, and the pair were recently filmed for an appearance in Britain's Craziest Christmas Lights, a Channel 5 documentary being shown on December 18.

"The documentary is narrated by Noddy Holder. We are looking forward to it, it should be fun," Wendy added.
