A MAN died after colliding with three vehicles on the Bromsgrove Highway on Saturday, (December 14).

The incident happened about a mile out of Bromsgrove on the Redditch-bound carriageway of the A448, at around 6am.

The pedestrian first collided with a white Audi A3, driven by a Bromsgrove man. He was then in collision with a purple Citroen Picasso, driven by a Redditch man, then a black Vauxhall Zafira, driven by a Wolverhampton man.

An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and a rapid response vehicle, carrying a critical care paramedic and a trauma doctor, were sent to the scene - but they could not save the man.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews were called to reports of a car and a pedestrian that had been in collision.

“Sadly on arrival it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the pedestrian, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene."

The man who died has not been formally identified, but is believed to be in his 40s and from Bromsgrove.

A police investigation was launched, which led to the closure of the highway.

The Audi sustained extensive damage, while the other two vehicles sustained minor damage.

The highway reopened at around 3pm.

PC Jim Southan, of West Mercia Police, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died.

"Tragedies like this are always especially poignant right before Christmas, and they are being assisted by a specially trained family liaison officer.

“It is vital to find out exactly what happened and a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the collision has been launched."
