STAND-up comedian Sean Hughes is back on tour and will be coming to Bromsgrove.

Following a critically acclaimed and audience packed run of his new show Penguins at The Edinburgh Fringe it has been announced that the star, will be performing at the Artrix.

The show, full of surprises, hidden twists and recurring themes, takes the audience back to his Dublin upbringing and the, at times, utter awkwardness of teenage life.

It weaves in his family, his school days and the business of friendship and has been described as multi-layered and up there with his Perrier award winning show A One Night Stand.

Hughes was born in London, but spent most of his youth in Firhouse, Dublin.

In 1987 he began appearing at the Comedy Store but it was not until his show, A One Night Stand With Sean Hughes, that he came to national attention.

He marked his 30th birthday with the Sean Hughes Is Thirty Somehow tour, which was broadcast on Channel 4, in 1995.

After a short break Hughes returned to stand-up, touring the UK and Australia in 2007 with his show, The Right Side of Wrong.

As well as comedy, he has also written collections of prose and poetry, a number of novels, and worked on several films.

He also presented weekend radio shows on BBC GLR, and BBC 6 Music, presenting the Sunday morning programme.

Sean Hughes will be coming to the Artrix on Wednesday, January 15 at 8pm.
