BROMSGROVE District Council has organised several events to celebrate the annual lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) month.

Normally celebrated throughout the month of February, this year it is beginning earlier with a double showing of Kill Your Darlings on Sunday, January 26, and Tuesday, January 28, at the Artrix Theatre in School Drive.

The theatre will also be hosting Proud - a photographic exhibition by Jeremy Williams In February there will be a screening of The Wizard of Oz , while at Bromsgrove Library, in Stratford Road, there will be exhibitions and talks on Saturday, February 1 and 11.

Celebrations conclude with the annual Queer Quiz presented by the Sou’Westers, on February 26.

Fiona Scott, equality policy officer for Bromsgrove District Council, said: “Year on year LGBT history month is getting bigger, better and even more popular.

"The theme for 2014 is music which is why we are particularly excited about our headline showing of The Wizard of Oz as it will mark the 75th anniversary of this charming, classic, sing-song family film; the perfect way to celebrate LGBT month.”

LGBT month is held annually in February and celebrates and recognises the contribution made to society by LGBT members of the community.
