PREPARATION work on Bromsgrove's new multi-million pound railway station has got underway.

The work at the site in Aston Fields involves the installation of several new retaining structures and realignment of the existing track routes.

It is being described as essential improvement work by Network Rail, in preparation for construction of the new railway station and car park.

The work began earlier this month, and is expected to be completed by August 21.

The majority of the work is is being carried out during working hours, Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 5.30pm.

Network Rail say some work will need to be carried out during weekends and night time hours, to avoid affecting the train service and for the safety of workers.

The station is earmarked for a 2015 opening, while work on a separate electrification scheme - bringing all four of the station's new platforms into use - is expected to be completed by May 2016.
