CHILDREN in Rubery have got plenty to be happy about this half term holiday with a new £65,000 makeover for their local park.

The new play area at St Chad’s Park in Rubery has received its new equipment, just in time for the play area to open during the half-term break.

It’s the first of three play areas in the district to receive an upgrade with two further play areas in Marlbrook and Aston Fields due to get a new look as well.

All three have had their designs influenced by the community, with pupils from nearby Beaconside First School getting involved with the design of the Rubery play area, which should have something for everyone from toddlers to junior age children.

New equipment at the play area includes flat swings, cradle swings, and basket swings, as well as a see-saw, spinning nets, springys, a toddler multi-climb unit and the brand new Mission Climb unit.

Portfolio holder for leisure Councillor Mark Bullivant, said: “We are very proud of our parks and green spaces across the district and the fact that future users of the area were involved in the design is brilliant.

“I am delighted the youngsters can enjoy this latest investment by the council in time for the school holidays, so let’s hope the weather improves so the children and parents can enjoy it.”

The play area will be officially opened at 2pm on Monday, February 24 by Councillor Bullivant, civic head councillor Helen Jones, and children from Beaconside First School.
