A PETITION calling for the Prime Minister to stop cuts to flood defences has received more than 14,000 in two weeks.

Worcestershire, as well as the rest of the UK, has had its wettest winter in 250 years and the charity Friends of the Earth have said it is only going to get worse as the climate keeps changing making the weather more extreme.

Climate campaigner for the charity Guy Shrubsole said: “Extreme weather is becoming more common – and unless we take urgent action to tackle climate change it will only get worse.

“Ministers must wake up to the challenge by closing the gaping hole in Britain’s flood defences, and make tackling climate change a top priority.”

The petition calls for David Cameron to invest enough in flood defences to keep pace with rising seas and worsening downpours and to stop making climate change worse by funding oil and gas companies.
