A BROMSGROVE couple who were pen pals during the Second World War, have been celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Dennis and Hazel Cooke were pen pals when Dennis served in the army during the war.

Dennis went to Raglan, in Wales, where Hazel was a land girl.

He was posted to Malaya and Egypt for three years, keeping in touch by letter.

When he returned they got engaged, and were then married on February 27, 1954.

They then had two children, Russell and Janet, and have four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The couple lived in Cardiff for four years before moving to Birmingham, and then to Bluebrooke Residential Care Home in Catshill.

The pair celebrated the milestone anniversary at the Stourbridge Road-based care home last Thursday, (February 27).

Hazel said: "Thank you to everyone at Bluebrooke for the lovely diamond anniversary celebration that we enjoyed with our family on Sunday."
